What Is A Dental(Tooth) Implant?

A dental implant is made of artificial biocompatible material that is placed in your jaw bone through a surgical procedure. The component inserted in the bone is called a fixture. After the initial healing period, an abutment that resembles the missing teeth is placed.  The implant surgery can be performed in a single step surgical procedure or with two steps surgical procedure

In single-phase implant surgery, the healing abutment is attached that is visible in the mouth. Following the healing period, the final abutment is placed without the need for surgery.

In a two-step surgical procedure, a cover screw is placed on the fixture, and surgical site is closed with a suture. After the complication of the healing phase, a surgical procedure is performed and an abutment is attached on the fixture.

Similar to conventional dental implants digital guided dental implants are titanium screws that are cylindrical in shape. It consists of two parts implant itself that acts as a root and the crown, which is placed on the top of it so that it performs the functions of the natural tooth. The material of the dental implants is biocompatible and placed surgically into the jawbone in place of a missing tooth.

Dental Implant is a restorative option to replace non-functional, missing, or severely decayed teeth. Dental implants help to maintain face shape and prevent bone decay caused by missing teeth. People are regaining the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh, and enjoy life thanks to dental implants.

Digital guided dental implants are biocompatible screws that act as roots of the tooth and a crown is then placed on the top of it that performs the functions of the tooth. This screw and crown are formed using digital technologies such as CAD/CAM and are surgically fixed into the jawbone.

Three dimensional computer simulation is used to examine the bone health and nerve position during digital guided implant surgery. A certified cosmetic dentist will be able to assess the health of the treatment area and plan surgery with few incisions using this information. In comparison to traditional implant surgery, there is substantially less discomfort with digital implant surgery because it focuses on making the smallest incision feasible. During the dental implant treatment, a model is placed over the teeth to ensure that no nerves or teeth are damaged. The guide also aids dentists in making precise, yet tiny, incisions for the installation of dental implants.

A dental bone graft is an intricate procedure that replaces missing bone in your jaw with special bone grafting material that encourages regeneration. Your dentist or oral surgeon begins by making an incision in the jaw and grafts the bone grafting material to the jaw. As the natural bone grows, it absorbs the grafting material and results in a fully integrated portion of new bone.

Some types of bone grafts available are:

  • Autografts: These are bone tissue obtained from the patient’s own body, typically from the patient’s hip, chin, or another part of the jaw.
  • Allografts: These are graft materials extracted from a human donor, usually cadaver bone.
  • Xenografts: These are bone tissue that uses inorganic portions of animal bones, commonly cows.
  • Alloplasts: These are created from hydroxyapatite, a naturally occurring mineral in bone.

Ceramic-based grafts: These are made from ceramics alone or in combination with other materials such as calcium or bioactive glass

What is customized dental crown?

Customized abutments are made by a dental laboratory. The restorative dentist captures the position of the implant and the shape of the surrounding gum tissue by taking an impression. The laboratory then fabricates an abutment that resembles the emergence and shape of a natural tooth. The custom abutment will fit on the implant and supports the gum tissue similar to a natural tooth.

Dental Implant FAQ

In most cases, anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. Patients should have healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant. Also, they must be committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits.

All of this drilling and screwing may sound painful, but you’ll be comforted to know that placing an implant is easier than taking a tooth out. Usually a local anesthetic is used, which means you are awake during the surgery.
You shouldn’t feel any pain during the surgery, especially if it is done with healthy tissue. Also, the bone where the implant is placed does not have many pain-sensing nerves. But if you’re very nervous about the surgery, you have sedative options to make you more comfortable during the operation.

Dental implants can last a lifetime. The crown that goes on top may need replacing after 10 to 15 years through wear and tear.

The use of dental implants in diabetic patients is controversial. It is generally accepted that the patients with controlled diabetes can have dental implants and have similar success rate as in healthy individuals.

The Implant Process It will take approximately one hour per implant. Your next appointment will be two to threemonths later. The dentist will decide whether your implant is ready to receive the crown that complete the process
